When Windows is started only HP logo is showing up

$

Hello,

I have this weird problem and maybe someone knows something more about it. I've recently bought HP 15-bs008nm  without OS. After I installed Windows, I got some weird problems with drivers etc. so I got advice to perform clean install again and see if that helps. When I tried to install windows again, I got a message that windows cannot be installed on this disk. The Selected disk has an MBR Partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT. I tried to convert disk through diskpart commands, but it didn't work, so I used clean command since it was the new computer. Everything was installed fine and everything's working fine except the fact that after wiping the hard drive, Windows logo dissapeared and now only HP logo is showing when OS is starting. Can someone please explain to me what's the cause and if there's some fix eventually? Thank you in advance.

Cannot Log in and go past the HP Drive Encription screen

Computer  will not take my password, the finger swipe, nor the 3 questions ot the spare key. I get stuck in the Login HP Drive Encription.

When I enter my password,  I get the message: "TPM Authentication failed. (0xb0000803).

When I use the finger swipe I get the message: "Unknown match"

When I  use the spare key I get the message: "TPM Authentication failed. (0xb6555).

Computer is new but refurbished. Been used only 8 months. Login screen has a logo on the lower right corner that says, "WINMAGIC Data Security"

I have tried turning it off, then back on while hitting the F11 key. I also tried it with the F2, F7, and F10 keys.  It always take me to the Login HP encription screen.

Any advice will help. Thanks.

Just to add....

HP does not do data recovery.

If you cannot get your data via an external enclosure or SATA/USB adapter, you would have to find a data recovery service yourself.

Here is one example of a service center that I have heard good things about...

HP Spectre startup menu at boot

Hi I recently sent in my notebook to HP for an issue and received it back.

Everything is now fine but I noticed that at EVERY startup, there would always be a startup menu option if I pressed ESC. It would then show this (if I pressed):

Startup menu

F1  System Information

F2 System diagnostics

F7 HP sparekey recovery

F9 Boot menu options

F10 BIOS setup

F11 System recovery

Enter - continue startup

For more information, please go to www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

I read this forum: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/HP-Omen-startup-menu-at-boot/td-p/5102376 which was my question and the answer was to update or reinstall the BIOS, which I did but proved unsuccessful.

Is there any way to stop having this show up?

Thank you, kem579

Hi,

Thank you for following the steps.

The good news is that the hardware tests passed and no problems were detected.

The bad news is that your Windows is not working as expected (corrupted) and also the recovery partition. This can happen due to various Windows updates - I see your model comes with Windows 10 Home edition.

Do you have your own recovery media ? Have you created one before ?

If not, you need to use original HP Recovery media to restore back the PC to business (to factory default condition). This restores Windows, drivers, preinstalled apps. Here is how to obtain it:

> Visit https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-15-ay000-notebook-pc-series/10862300/model/11896409

> Select Microsoft/Windows/Windows 10

> On the list of drivers, scroll down to "Order Recovery Media - CD/DVD/USB"

> Click on it and expand it

> Click on "Order Media" and fill in your data

> Follow the on-screen insctructions to order one

Usually the recovery media is a USB pen drive. Once you receive it, you should plug it in and boot from it (Esc/F9)

Here are details how to use it >> http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&section=ccweb&sfs=tdoc&lc=en&language=english&cc=us&action=step&response=1&step=C23452.C23116&session=8ba50a0d-3b96-49e9-a762-193c7b

After successful restore:

1) Uninstall McAfee and restart the PC - use the built-in Defender program - to avoid issues or slow downs

2) Make sure you update your Windows. Note that this may be time consuming process.

Let me know how it goes and if you face difficulties

P.S.  Do you want to attempt to back up your information before the process ? Do you have any important files inside the computer's HDD that are important and not backed up somewhere else ? Let me know.

Cannot boot laptop as it cannot locate hard drive: 3F0 message

Cannot boot laptop as it cannot find the hard drive (3F0) message.

Have tried to run diagnostic as well as BIOS cannot locate the drive.  Drive does appear to have a clicking sound, which could be an indicator for HDI (Hard Disk Interference).

Thanks!

Hi @Jeet_singh. Thanks for your thorough reply. A few comments/responses.

Could you provide me with the exact model of the notebook? 13-4102DX

Did this happen after a recent software update or upgrade? No

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manager? Yes, no luck.

Regarding the below option...

"Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed."

... This would be impossible since my computer doesn't recognize it has a battery and therefore is not charging. It turns off immediately after losing AC power.

Regarding this option...

"I would suggest please update the Bios and Chipset on your PC from our HP Support website, using this link." Did that. No luck.

As you will see from my initial post, I tried running HP Assistant's battery diagnostic, but it caused my computer to crash.

I'm hoping with this information you may be able to continue to help. Thanks again!

Hi,

Usually the 3FO indicates that the hard drive has failed or the MBR has become corrupted. Since the syste no longer sees the drive I would first try to reseat the drive. This most likely will not work since you say the hard drive is making ticking noise.

You will need to replace the drive. You can use any 2.5" Sata III drive and could also consider an SSD which would increase everyday performance of the system. You can see on page 57 of service manual how to replace the drive.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05493257

You will need to reinstall the OS with HP recovery disks or by downloading Windows 10 from Microsoft and performing a clean install. Windows will automatically activate once installed on PC and connected to internet.

Let me know if you need further help,

David

I just pulled the drive out and re-seated it - and the results were the same.

is there any way that I can get a new drive under warranty?  It is a fairly new computer (August 2017).

Thanks!

Hi,

Since your PC is a buisness notebook there is no master password which will unlock the PC. You need to contact HP directly and ask for SMC.bin file to unlock the computer. They will also send instructions how to use file to unlock the PC. Ask the support agent to escalate your request.
