In that case, I can not combine 2 OSes on this machine, or is there any way other than installing Linux on a flash drive?

Thank you for replying with this detailed response Smiley Wink

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'm afraid since HP does not support Linux, there's no information available regarding the installation of the same,

I suggest you check with the Linux support forums for assistance on getting it installed on a flash drive.

That said, I wish there's more I could do the help you out, although, I'm at the end of the line.

And if you ever do have any other concerns, I'll be here to assist you.

feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon,

And Have a great day Ahead!

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. If your computer is not entering the recovery manager, you will not be able to repair the computer.

Recommend you boot the computer to BIOS by tapping F10 repeatedly on startup.

Restore the BIOS settings to defaults.

Save and Exit.

Try to enter recovery manager again, without any external devices connected to your computer.

If the issue persists, request you contact our phone support team to get a recovery kit to reinstall the OS on your computer.

Keep me posted.

Hp mini 110-1046nr Bios/admin Password

Hello -having an issue with my HP Mini 110-1046nr. I was able to get passed the Bios password, but now the login window for Windows XP shows the username as owner, but I do not know the admin password. This is an old device that I recently found in my storage and I don't remember the password. Is there a way to factory reset this device to bypass all of this and start clean? Or a way to reset the admin password so I can at least log into the device and perform a reset from the control panel? I tried shutting down and tapping F11, but then it prompts for the Bios password again.

The serial # is [edited]

Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, I did that already, and I was able to get to the user login screen, but am stuck again. The username shows as "owner" but I don't know the password. There isn't an option to reset the password. Is there a way to bypass this or perform a factory reset from here?

Hey there! , Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have issues booting into your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?

Did the windows get updated before you got the black screen?

As you mentioned suddenly applications got closed and the screen went blank

Try the steps recommended below.

Press CTRL + Alt + Del on the blank screen.
Click on Task Manager
Click "File" - "Run a new task" If there is no "file" option, please click on the task manager under the "details"
In the pop-up window, enter "msconfig" click "OK"
In the system configuration window that appears, click "Service" and uncheck "App Readiness".
Click "Apply" --- "OK"
In the following window appears to click on the "restart"

Also, try the steps recommended below.

If you have previously disabled App Readiness
Boot the PC
Click Start and type Services
Open desktop app Services and find App Readiness
Open the service and set Startup type to Manual
Click Apply and close the window
Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Login using this link.
Reboot PC

If you have not disabled App Readiness
Boot the PC
Wait 15-20 minutes for the boot process to complete and desktop to load
Once on desktop, Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Login.
Reboot your computer and let me know if this helps you fix the issue.

Also, try updating the BIOS and other drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.

If the issue still persists try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

New laptop did the initial set up an updated I install the virus software and now it will not open up windows just stalls

Desktop won't move past the Compaq/BIOS screen

I recently opened up the case to my Compaq computer (powered off and unplugged) and realized that the power supply cables were a tangled mess and wanted to organize these as I was cleaning the inside of computer.. I unplugged just about everything, and plugged back in when I was finished with the untangling of these cords.. When I powered back on, my computer would not move past the Compaq logo/ BIOS screen. The keyboard has ZERO functionality and I am not at all sure what I did!

I know it's an old machine, but any help on a resolution would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have two separate harddrives, a video card, and wireless PCI card hooked up, ALL of which worked just fine prior to my fooling around with the cords.

HELP!!!!

Welcome to the HP Forums Smiley Happy

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the HP Simple pass doesn't seem to work anymore,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you uninstall the True Key and check if it works?

Have you attempted to reinstall the HP Simple pass software?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

It's possible there's a conflict between the two software as they both have similar feature,

I recommend you uninstall the true key, if you wish to use the HP Simple pass,

And here are the steps to reinstall it:

Install the HP Simple Pass Identity Protection Software for Windows 10:  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71729.exe

If the issue persists, Please Click here to download the most viable driver for Windows 10  fingerprint reader (if need be) & if your Simple Pass Software isn't working:

Click here to download a different version of the same software.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Have a great day!

Does this happen after you logon to Windows- or it never reaches logon screen?
