Log On Screen Flickering then Black Screen

Okay, I completed an update for my fingerprint scanner about two days ago and didn't restart my computer right away. I restarted my computer today and it asked me to verify my password, unnfortunately I totally forgot it. After trying many many times with no luck I decided to undo the update by going back to the time before I updated. When I restarted my computer again, my log in screen was flashing, I couldn't do ANYTHING on my computer, so I restarted it.....still nothing.

I got so frustrated that I just shut down my computer or a few hours, when I got back on my computer would not boot up at all. I have a black screen, PLEEEEEEEEASE HEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

Thanks for the reply but I have tried all of those options and also tried a genuine hp charger and still no lights on or power. Could it be the dc Jack needs to be replaced? I hope my motherboard is fine.

Hi @WendMT,

Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help.

I understand that the laptop stopped working shortly after finger print login failed.

Please review the document below:

HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 8)

Perform the hard reset, and check any symptom of the laptop.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi @Eddeh1827,

They are both possible. Since the laptop cannot be powered on, we cannot use the UEFI diagnostic to perform the hardware tests. If the laptop still is still in warranty, you may consider to contact HP phone support, or you can consult the repair fee.

Please use the following link http://www.hp.com/contacthp to create a case for your issue, and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html to get the contact

I am suffering from cache manager errors and windows bluscreen and rebooting.

This is only 2 weeks old.

Drivers updated and windows updated. which is a manual pain to do.

Please advise.

I still have not received an answer to previous message on getting any SD card to stay mounted, it simply vanishes but when I pull the sd card windows chirps unmount sound.

Massive issues with both grove player and wmp trying to keep playing from SD card after 1 song it looses the sd card, and songs, ave different error codes from legcy to headers, no issues playing form any other windows 7 or windows 10 devices justthis one

Even a usb HD have issues with.

Now BSD.

I think the unit is just underpowered to surf the web while playing a song, if so it will be going back as unfit and full refund.

Start Up Freeze on Fresh Computer + Bios Wireless ID 702 Issue

$

Hi guys,

Picked up this laptop and it appears to be having start up issues.

STEPS: 1. Turn on Computer -> Bios Boots up all fine, Windows Logo appears and then it either Freezes, or instead of the windows logo the blue windows recovery shows.

Unfortunately I removed all the other partitions as I assumed that would remove any extra hassles. So I formatted it all and did a fresh install of Windows 7, and then again with 10, and each time I received the above errors.

WHAT I HAVE DONE: I have run SeaTools on the drive and comprehensive came back all fine, so I don't think its a Harddrive issue. I feel like it's a BIOS issue.

Firstly when turning it on it appears with the message "Wireless ID 702: Wireless Module is not Supported"

I pulled it apart and looked up the ID code of the mini wifi card and it was one of the Ralink ones that is allowed (I never changed it, it was the stock one that came with the laptop). The issue appears to be the new Bios.

I'm currently using the latest BIOS, and read in another thread to downgrade the BIOS to an original state.

How do I do this without using the built in BIOS updater. I have tried USB and it said update failed.

WHAT I AM DOING: Currently using SeaTools to Zero the drive in case a bad partition or something was still on there.

Thanks for posting your experience and questions on the HP Support Forums @sarahamy14!

I will do my absolute best to help you come to a resolution with the Wifi being slow when all devices are connected. When we have come to a resolution, please share what worked for you with others by marking this post as an Accepted Solution.

My first suggestion would be to use the Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet Tool. At the bottom it will ask you questions to help narrow down the issue.

Does it happen if you directly connect one of the devices to the modem?

What happens when you only have your Notebook connected?

Have you tried to change the wireless channel band?

Changing the wireless channel works best for 2.4 GHz routers and environments with lots of wireless network activity.

Your wireless router has settings stored in firmware that might interfere with your computer's ability to connect or perform well. Resetting the firmware settings on your router and re-establishing connections for all the devices that use the router is a good way to start over and fix many types of wireless related issues.

Please also update the firmware dedicated to the router. For the best way to do so, please refer to the User Guide that came with your router. It is a good idea to connect the computer directly to the router using its network cable when doing the firmware update.

You can find the generalized steps to all of the troubleshooting recommendations above in the Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet document.

Have you uninstalled the driver in the Device Manager?

Please try to uninstall the driver in the Device Manager using the following steps:

  • Go to the Device Manager.
  • Expand Network Adapters.
  • Right click on all of the Network Adapters individually.
  • Click Uninstall.
  • Restart the Notebook twice.

I look forward to hearing your response. Please let me know the detailed results of the troubleshooting above, your Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) and Which Windows Operating Systems you are running.

If you would like to show your appreciation for my efforts today, please take a second to click the Thumbs Up button below.

Have a magnificent day! Smiley Happy

I have a HP Pavillion G60-120em laptop that's currently running windows vista.  i want to upgrade to windows 7, but when i try and boot from cd/dvd it doesn't work.  I've seen possible solutions posted, but my problem is that i can't find the 'disable for the secure boot' command.  It doesn't seem to be in the sytem config or security menu.  I've tried everything, but still no joy.  i'm grateful for any help advice as i've tried for days without any luck.

Hi tried to do a hard reboot. Unplugged the non removable battery. Same thing. 2 blinks of the caps lock key after pressing power button. This same thing happened about a week ago. This time it will not recover into Bios mode. This just happened after I did a update and restart prompted by shut down sequence.

Secure Boot is a feature that started with Windows 8 machines. That is why you can't find it on a  laptop of Vista vintage.

1-Simply saying-"when i try and boot from cd/dvd it doesn't work"-doesn't give us much to work with. What is happening?  "Tap any key to boot from CD" not appearing at power on? Or-tries to boot from CD but get Errors messages or simply fails? Etc.

2-Have you tried entering BIOS by tapping F10 key at power on-set CD/DVD as first boot device-Save & Exit?

3-Have you tried tapping Esc key immediately after powering on to see if a menu opens. If so F9 Boot options should be a choice.Tap F9, then use arrow key to move down & highlight CD/DVD the tap Enter key.

startup cannot completed
