Hi,

Try performing HP hardware diagnostics on the system, you can perform the quick test. Many times the problem you are having indicates a malfunction of the hard drive. In the link below look under "performing tests when Windows does not start"

https://support.hp.com/ro-en/document/c03467259

Let me know,

David

David,

Thanks for your quick response! I did a test on the memory that was 45 minutes.  The next option was the hard drive check and when I click quick check it said no hard drive installed check that the power and data cables are connected properly.....then I clicked Extensove check and it said the same thing. The screen is black so I cant go to the menu to run the hardware diagnostics.

I'm stuck David!

OK. Most likely the drive has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced. It can happen that this is caused by a hard drive not being properly attached to the motherboard and hence the message "check that the power and data cables are connected properly". This is very unlikely in your case as the hard drive has very little chance to become dislodged.

A couple of things to try:

Power reset:

https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c01684768

Here is a small guide on how to replace the drive and get the PC running again:

So what you need is a 2.5" SATA3 hard drive (max 2TB because of the thickness of drive). You can get from your preferred brand such as Seagate, WD...

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST2000LM015/dp/B01LYNQXCP/ref=sr_1_4?ie=U...

or you could opt for a 2.5" SATA3 SSD which would improve the everyday performance of the PC

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-Internal-MZ-76E1T0B-AM/dp/B0781Z7Y3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie...

On page 50 of the service manual you can see the steps to replace drive:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05227786

You will need to reinstall the OS on the drive, either by using recovery disks, migrating a backup image or by downloading media creation tool from Microsoft on different PC running and creating a bootable pendrive with the OS on it on a different computer. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive) Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC  until startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows. You do not need a product key as it is in the firmware.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times. Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-15-ba000-notebook-pc-series-touch/10862319/model/16646109/product-info?sku=1NT78UA

I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help to keep drivers up to date and much more. Here you can download latest version

https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

Once you have removed the old drive you can try to recover data from it by using a USB to SATA adapter:

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1546673399&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+to+sata

Hope it helps,

David

Ok thanks.  I need my business back up and running .... unreliability has an enormous effect in the present but also looking forward into the future... it causes hesitation and lack of confidence.
