    Remove AC adapter.

    Remove the battery.

    Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

    Plug in AC adapter without the battery.

    Does the laptop boot?

    I forgot my BIOS administrative password and my system is not loading after switching on.

    The system keeps displaying HP logo.

    Welcome to the HP Support Community

     

    For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

    When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

     

    Just to note:

     

    Do not try removing the RTC/BIOS battery.  As it will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock and as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC may cause it to fail.

  • Hello everyone, there was such a problem with the HP laptop Pavilion 15-p170nr:
    When replacing the RAM, accidentally killed the BIOS ROM. In the service (non-official), the microcircuit was changed, and the BIOS was programmed from another laptop (HP Pavilion 17-f154nr).
    Tell me, how can I flash the BIOS through a computer on my own? I tried to update the BIOS program from the official site of HP, but it did not help.

    I recommend you run a system test on the computer following the steps in the below artilce to make sure that there are no hardware issues.

    I cannot do step 3.

    Step 3. “Click the Power management tab.

    If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.”

    I do not have Power Management tab. The option for change settings is disabled. Btw I own this computer, I should have access.

    I checked the specifications of your computer and see that your computer doesn't support RAID.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I have download the HP Support Assistant as you suggested and ran the update option. It went through the process but no updates were available. There were some messages but nothing related to a problem. I also ran the Operating Systems Diagnostics option and the System Test but everything there was ok too.

    Another issue has cropped up to do with BitDefender Internet Security. Within the Utilities section it has a start-up optimiser, and after adjustments to either disable or delay the apps within the start-up menu the PC needs to be re-started. I found that after re-start it still asking for a re-start. Given that I am having problems with shutdown I am wondering now if the problem is related to the difficulties that I’m getting with shutdown. I have contacted their technical support regarding this but as yet am waiting for a response. It has now been temporarily removed.

    Since I posted my request I have tried running the Events View. This did show errors but I don’t have the knowledge to interpret them.

    I downloaded windows ten to USB drive from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 and activated it with a product key that I purchased on line. It was successfully verified.

    I am locked out of my computer. I forgot the password. I do have a bootable disk which I made when I bought the computer. Can I use this disk to get back into my computer without knowing my password?

    I hope someone can help me! - I have here a very old HP Pavlilion dv6000 from a relative which suddenly wants a Bios-Password

    It means there has been detected a hardware failure with the battery and you should replace it. These are the compatible batteries:

    6-cell, 55 WHr, 2.8 Ah   part number 811346-001

    4-cell, 44 WHr, 3.0 Ah   part number 805294-001

     

    if you search online in your country with the part number you should be able to find original or quality compatible batteries.

    Wow. Purchased this laptop 11/24/17. On New Year's Eve I used it in the morning for a few hours, then came back in the afternoon to a black screen. The power button blinks on and off white, the power button lights up white. But nothing comes up on the screen. I've already taken all troubleshooting steps, including with an HP rep on the phone this morning. I've had dozens of computers and laptops in my adult life and never had a laptop die suddenly like this when only a year old. I've read other posts indicating that there is a known issue with the 360 motherboards - and also that HP was replacing these faulty motherboards for free. But the BEST HP support could quote me was weeks without my computer at $460 - and that was after the rep went back to his "manager" and offered several "discounts." It felt like a used car scenario. I'm extremely disappointed that my small business spent so much money on a lemon. Up until this point I really liked this laptop, other than it had some issues coming back promptly from sleep.
