HP Envy HD powers off after 2-3 min - fan and power light stay on

Laptop's HD will power off after 2-3 mins, screen goes black, while the fan, power light stay lit. The wireless light does turn orange.

Also - not sure if this is related, when it is plugged in, the battery shows 0%, plugged in, not charging.

I have left it sit for 2 hrs, same symptoms.

Unplugged battery, pressed power button for 30 seconds, powered back on. After complete boot up, plugged battery back in, same issue.

Unable to run diagnostics on battery, or system, since the laptop will not stay booted long enough to run it.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

Hp envy hd screen wont turn on only power button turns on for 5 sec once

I have a hp envy m7 notebook. I was using it yesterday and when i shut it down with the normal procedure the screen turned off but the power button light remained on forever.

I then waited for almost 2 to 3 hours then manually took the battery out and inserted it again.

Then when i turned on the laptop the screen wont turn on just the power light turns on for 10 sec and turns off once.

When i press the power button again same thing happens. during this time for twice the time screen turned on and it showed that boot system not found- something like that.

Since then the laptop wont turn on only the power light turns on for 10 sec and turn off.

I also tried the hard reset, but nothing happened. Please guide me what to do.

This type of issue has occured before also and the laptop started running normally after a few tries on the power buttton.

IF the hard disk is demonstrating problems indicative of file system corruption, the more you use it, the more you risk not being able to recovery ANYTHING from it.  So, your safest approach at this point is the following:

1) Remove the hard drive from the old PC
2) Purchase a USB-to-Hard Driver adapter kit (like the one illustrated below)

 USB-Drive-Adapter.jpg

3) Connect the old drive to a working PC using that adapter
4) Try to retrieve the files and folders you want to save from the old drive and copy them to the new PC.

You could then copy those files to a USB stick to save them offline.

Once you have that done, you could attemt a system reset by doing the following:

1) reinsert the hard drive back into the original PC

2) reboot the PC but press teh F11 key repeatedly while rebooting

3) when the HP Recovery Manager appears, select the option to do the system reset

This can take a LONG time to finish (2 hours or more) but if it completes properly, when it finally reboots, you would go through set again and your PC should be working fine.

But ... if it still presents battery problems, then you would have to look into replacing the battery.

My hp envy has been locked up. It will not open files, menu options, wifi, file explorer, or task manager. I have tried restarting it, and shutdowns that is about all it will let me do. When signing on to this help service it said my computer was located in Singapore so I don't know if that means it has been hacked or what ....any thoughts

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the face recognition.

Don’t worry, I’m here to help! To better assist you -

1) May I have the exact model name of the computer? Refer to this link for steps to find the product details. (Ensure not to share the serial number, email, phone number, etc.)

2) Were there any hardware or software changes made?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps -

Step 1 Re-install the IR camera driver -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

2) Expand the Imaging Devices.

3) Right-click on the IR camera and select Uninstall.

4) Confirm the uninstallation.

5) Restart the computer to reinstall the Webcam driver.

Step 2 Remove the Face Recognition and PIN sign-in settings -

1) Click on the Windows icon > Click Settings  > Click Accounts.

2) click Sign-in options.

3) In the Windows Hello area under Face Recognition, click Remove.

4) In the PIN area, click Remove, and then click Remove again to confirm.

5) Type your password in the Password field, and then click OK.

Step 3 Clear the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) -

1) Disable or suspend all apps that use the TPM, for example, BitLocker.

2) Restart the computer and press Esc repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup Menu opens.

3) When the Startup Menu displays, press F10 to open BIOS Setup.

4) Use the right arrow key to choose Security.

5) In the Security or System Security settings, disable the following security features, if they are listed.

  • Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX)
  • Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT)

6) Save your changes and exit the BIOS.

7) Sign in to an administrator account.

8) Using the search box on the taskbar, search for and open Run.

9) In the Open field, type tpm.msc, and then click OK.

If a User Account Control window displays, click Yes.

The TPM management window opens.

10) In the Actions section, click Clear TPM. Click Restart.

 11) Follow the on-screen instructions to clear the TPM.

12) If you disabled security features such as Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) or Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) in the BIOS before clearing the TPM, re-enable them.

Step 4 Add a PIN and set up Face Recognition -

1) Click on the Windows icon > Click Settings  > Click Accounts.

2) click Sign-in options.

3) In the PIN area, click Add.

4) Type your password in the password box, and then click OK or Sign in, depending on your account type (local or Microsoft).

5) Type in a PIN, confirm it, and then click OK.

6) In the Windows Hello area under Face Recognition, click Set up.

7) Click Get started.

8) Type your PIN or password in the PIN or Password field.

9) When the camera screen displays, position yourself so your face displays in the center of the window, and then hold still until the All set! window displays.

10) Click Close.

Hope this helps!
