Hi NeedHelp49,
Welcome to the HP Forums!:smileyhappy:
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you are unable to login with your password, and are having difficulty with logging in with your fingerprint.
First thing I would do is login with your fingerprint, now create a new profile with administrative rights. Create a user accound windows 8.1
Using the new profile, go the the command prompt and right click and run as administrator
At the command prompt,
type sfc /scannow and press enter and allow it to finish.
This will scan for corrupt files and try to repair them.
Once that is completed I would again go back to the command prompt,
type chkdsk /c and press enter.
Please note that Check Disk can’t repair volumes that are in use. If the volume is in use, Check Disk displays a prompt that asks if you want to schedule the volume to be checked the next time you restart the system. Click Yes to schedule and then restart your computer.
If you are still having difficulties with the original profile, log into the new Admin account and you should be able to change the password on the original account.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting a Fingerprint Reader (Windows 8), if you are still having an issue with it. This will walk you through some steps to identify the issue.
You can also run The HP Support Assistant to aid with updates and resolving issues.
Here is another possibility for you if you have a Microsoft online account. What to do if you forget your Windows password
I would also suggest you create a password reset disk, to aid you if you should have this issue again.
Go to the control panel.
click on user accounts and family safety
click on user accounts
click on create password reset disk.
I hope this has helped.
