My DV6 was overheating (which is nothing new) but more annoyingly running really slow from time to time. I even went to the hassle of unloading programs, and eventually reimaging the machine. But it didn't fix the problem. Then I finally figured out that each time the computer was slow the resource monitor (launched from inside the task manager) would show the max CPU speed had dropped to 5%!!!!! So it was the overheating problem going to a new level.
So out with the vacuum cleaner and I did the trick of jamming the fan with a pin and then sucking the crap back though the cooling fins. That fixed the problem but the CPU temp was still a little high. Totaly sick of this problem so I thought I'd take it to the next level, and unleashed the full strength air compressor on it pushing backwards through the cooling system. I was worried that full strength from the air compressor might rip loose some ribbon cables or something, but it doesn't seem to have had any negative impacts. A few dust clouds came out, and eventually it was blowing clear air out.
Powered up again and now The CPU is running down to about 50 degrees, and as low as 30 to 40 if it isn't working on anything!
So I wanted to share with everyone that blowing compressed are backwards through the system didn't seem to do any damage (provided you jam the fan first), and that obviously the CPU paste is still effective once the system is clean.
