Some very good news. HP had a forum in mid January where we could submit any question we wanted to. I submitted this question to the HP online team. I also submitted a Microsoft Diagnostic Support form they posted a link for. I got a
reply back several weeks ago. They stated that tmusa.sys IRQL error was caused by 3rd party software - in this case
specifically my Internet security provider, Trend Micro. They also requested that I update several drivers.
Trend Micro, in turn, requested that I submit my minidump files, which I did. They then came back that their
tmusa.sys could be corrected. However, there were 4 other drivers involved -a graphics driver and several Microsoft
drivers. I passed this information back to the HP diagnostics team who stated the other drivers were a red herring.
Trend Micro escalated my case to a level 2 technician. Two days ago, they corrected the tmusa.sys error. It was
quite an extensive fix--an analysis of the error, corrections in the registry, several installations, DOS corrections,
clean-up and reinstallation of their software. It took two hours on wifi.
What had happened. When I had to do a system restore on my computer, the internet security was upgraded from "2013" version to "2014" version. Evidently therein lay the problem.
Since Trend Micro repaired my software two days ago, I have not had any further crashes.
Thanks for your help and interest. My problem has been solved.
