Thank you very much for your help. I did go through the process you suggested, however, I got a message that the roll back had failed after completing the instructions. When returning to the login screen, I had an option to boot normally or in safe mode. I went ahead and told the PC to boot normally, and everything seems to be operating normally. Apparently no permanent damage has been done by the failed installation. I won't attenpt any updates offered by the HP Support Assistant after this.
