When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
If you got a DST (Drive Self-Test) failure code or error with the original HDD, the hard drive most likely failed or was about to fail. If you installed a new new hard drive, didn't get a DST error and used your HP Recovery Discs, the new drive may be an AF (Advanced Format) drive and may not be compatible with the HP Recovery Discs. If you used a Windows installation DVD, the issue could be a number of different things.
Please provide the computer model information, the hard drive brand and model, the Windows installation method (HP Recovery or Windows CD/DVD), the Windows version (XP, Vista, etc.), and any other details that may be pertinent.
