32-bit Windows will only recognize and use up to 3.25 GB of RAM, by design. With that said. No , you do not know if it worked when you had Windows 7 (32-bit).
I recommend that you go into the BIOS and test your memory modules.
You can remove one module and try booting up to quickly see if the issue is memory module related. Test one module first and then the other. Use the inner soDIMM slot.
