Its a laptop. disassemble is not something Id like to do. I just cant flip it over and pull the back off and gain access to everything, it has all these ridiculous parts to it, probably to keep the consumer from taken it apart. what i was able to piece off i cleaned out with a can of air. I bought my laptop back in 2008/2009 and it came with win 7 upgrade. 2010 would of been the last time it was opened by a certified tech for a broken screen.
shouldn't the thermal paste last indefinitly? i never heard of needing to add more on.
does it sound like it could be anything else? i only ask because if i try take my laptop apart i might brick it and its not under warranty and i cant afford to take it to some over-charging computer tech.
thanks for the reply though!
Thermal paste don't last for eternity...they do wear out or dry out and should be replaced. But a complete dissembly and cleaning of dust from Heatsink and vents and redoing the thermal paste and then try your laptop again to see if the problem returns. Opening a LCD isn't the same as cleaning your laptop inside and out. You will need to do that and rethermal paste to make sure dust on vents and fan and the thermal paste aren't the cause of you problem. And if doing all that and still does it that would mean one other obvious problem... the graphics processor is failing....
No, I think you confused what I was saying. I didn't say I cleaned out the monitor I am saying that taking apart my laptop would require dissassembly of the monitor and the laptop itself. I would be taking it apart in pieces. its not like a desktop where you can just remove the side and have immediate access to the motherboard. this laptop requires me to take everything out of it before i even have access to the motherboard. I can't find a video for hdx 18t but here is one for hdx 16 so you can see what Im talking about: http://youtu.be/DakZrJw4ahU.
When Ive got 2 weeks to spare i will give it a shot. thanks though for the info.
