Looks like a good solution and should have tried it. I had used the "system reset" option in the windows 8 settings - which I literally GRABBED while the screen was flashing. Only problem was it went back to factory settings and I have to reinstall many programmes. Maybe if I had used your method of pressing F8 key, I could have just restored to some recent past instead of this massive reset.
