Thread stuck in device drive

Unable to do full scan using Windows defender on HP Pavillion 10 TS Notebook PC - f315ua#ABA.

I get blue screen with error "thread stuck in device driver" after running for about 90 minutes. Quick scan works fine.  I have updated the bios for the AMD processor a4-1200 APU. I have the latest driver for AMD graphics chipset HD 8180. I also get the blue screen when using Word or Excel.  I'm also getting frozen screen issue after about 30 minutes of web surfing. I followed the steps for analyzing a frozen screen but one of the first things recommended is to run a full scan, which keeps failing.

NEED HELP TO FIX THIS.

Some things to try:

  • Hold the power button down for 10 seconds to make sure it is fully powered off.
  • If you have another power adaptor, try that to make sure it is just not a matter of the battery being dead.
  • Check that when you plug the adaptor in, the charge light comes on next to the power jack.
  • Try holding down the Win key + b key when powering up to reset the BIOS.
  • Try pressing Esc when powering up and then F2 to enter the BIOS diagnostic menu.
  • If any lights remain lit when it powers off, leave it unplugged until the battery fully discharges.

At the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a 'halt code' - post back with this code.

Hi,

If your notebook has an Intel chipset, try the following.

Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane.

In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU...

When the installation has completed, restart the notebook.

When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

You are welcome. Smiley Happy Thanks for replying to me. Feel free to let us know the outcome. Meanwhile, let's try the below workaround to run a test on the battery:

1. If notebook does not power ON with the battery, then remove the battery out and power ON the notebook.

2. Hit the F2 key on startup to go to UEFI hardware diagnostics.

3. Now put the battery back into the notebook while the notebook is still powered ON.

4. Run the battery test by referring to this link: http://hp.care/2bOrqZQ.

Good luck and take care. Smiley Happy

HP Envy dv6 stuck at loading screen or automatic repair

Recently my computer crashed and said it had to restart to fix a problem. After it restarted it tried to go into repair mode but now it gets stuck either trying to repair or at the HP loading screen.

I ran some tests using the UEFI BIOS program and it said there was an error with the hard drive. Prior to this I was attempting to backup an iPhone on iTunes. The failure code from UEFI is 9gc72m-6j489x-qfpjw1-60tl03

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the boot issues you describe.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here.

You can contact HP starting on the link below.

http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your dv6 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation.

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out Smiley Happy

As I understand the computer is not turning on or is displaying only a black screen and the battery isn't charging either,

To provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Please perform the below steps:

If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black,
you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue:

(Click on the blue letters to get more details about each step)

  1. Examine the adapter and power cord for physical damage
  2. Test the power from the AC wall outlet to the notebook connector
  3. Start computer using the battery only
  4. Check that the lid switch moves freely
  5. When you have completed the troubleshooting steps, there should be power available to the computer. When you press the power button, the LEDs should glow, and you should hear the sounds of the fan and the hard drive spinning.

Eager to help,
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hi! , thanks for the reply.

Hope you are doing well now. As i told you earlier 90b error indicates it could be a issue with the system fan or heatsink on your PC which might have failed.

The only option is to get this hardware replace. So you can contact HP or visit any computer store and get the issue fixed.

Have a great day!

its a pavilion DV9600 ca entertainment pc

itried to isolate the problem by opening the screen and detaching it to see if the hinges had anything to do with the problem it is the screen itself that causes the issue.

until windows logs in appears the screen has to be fully opened then you can change the position and everything is fine.

i though of a possible mercury switch that would tel the position of the screen but found none , what is part of the screen that would detect its position i wounder

@moro_momo

Thank you for replying

I appreciate your patience and your efforts Smiley Happy

I must let your know that this isn't an issue with the computer but a normal startup process as windows attempts to boot into the login screen,

If the screen would flash after booting into windows or while you are on BIOS as mentioned previously, it would confirm a hardware/software failure and would have required troubleshooting.

You could reduce the boot time taken to boot into windows, to reduce the time spent waiting on HP Logo: Windows search type "msconfig" > Select the Boot tab > reduce Timeout to 3 instead of 30 > click apply > check the box - do not show this message after restart and then OK.

Restart the computer and Keep me posted,

Hi,

If you're installing to a gpt drive, try creating the installation media again using MBR for UEFI computers - FAT32.

Also, I'd definetely make sure to insert the installation flash drive when the machine is on and then power it off via the power button - hold it down for 15 seconds just to ensure the machine has powered down.  Then tap away at the esc key as soon as you power on, select the Boot Manager ( f9 ) option and see if the flash drive is now listed.
