HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab153nr HP services hang startup

$

My 6 month old lap top recently started hanging on boot at the point where the HP services load.

The computer boots just fine in safe mode. By process of elimination (turning off services one by one and restarting) the computer boots fine as long as the HP services are prevented from trying to start.

1.  Will running with out these services harm my computer?

2. How do we fix those services so they don't hang?

Dear Customer,

Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.

This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the

code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case.

  1. Please have a look at this link.

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility

  1. Replace the BIOS chip

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-New-/251583542720?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3a938c35c0

  1. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

Hi,

Could you give information on operating system on the unit and the model details of the unit.

Since you wil be able to reset the password of administartor if your are using Windows XP. Other than this if you are using any other operating system like Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or 8.1 or Windows 10, then you have to reinstall the Operating system.

If its linked to your microsoft account then you the below link to reset

Thanks. I'd already tried that, it didn't work. Eventually I followed another tip I found online: open it up and remove the battery and RAM (pretty easy except two screws are hidden under the back rubber feet) then put it back together. This got it booting again. I then used the HP Support Assistant software to search for what drivers it thought I was missing. It found one called "Intel I2C". I installed that and bingo, suddenly my touchscreen worked fine. Problem satisfyingly solved!

So a rollback to a previous "MEI" driver fixed it right up.  Not sure where I found the instructions to do so, but one of these threads (there's a lot of them) gives specific instructions about where and how to download the correct older version, links and all.

Hi,

If its asking for BIOS password to get into BIOS settings,  then enter incorrect password 3 times and it will generate a System halt code. Post that to get the reset key

Or you start tapping ESC key once the unit is turned ON and you will have option to select the boot device.

OMEN Boot NUM LOCK needed as ON

Bought a new Omen just to see that bios has no option to set default NUM Lock status as "ON"

Support is so difficult to access, cant it be simpler likeDELL that you just summarize and send mail

To enable NUM LOCK before a user logs on, follow these steps:

  1. Run Registry Editor.
  2. Move to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard
  3. Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2
