Hi,

Try disabling Windows 10 hybrid boot - you can do this as follows.

Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane.

In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and shutdown the notebook by right click the Start Menu icon, select Command Prompt (Admin) and click ‘Yes’ to the uac prompt.

Type ( or copy and paste ) in the following command ( including spaces ) and hit enter.

shutdown /s /t 0

Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a couple of minutes before checking if it will now shutdown correctly from the Start Menu.

If this has corrected the issue, it may be worth turning Fast Start-up back on – sometimes just deleting and re-creating the file will resolve the problem.

You said you installed Win10 on your DV6, and these come with Win7.  Unfortunately, that generally corrupts the Recovery information so that, after that, no HP reset is going to work.

The only way you will be able to reset it now is through HP Recovery Media, and with a PC that old, it's likely that HP does not stock the media anymore.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update".  If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entty and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/  and http://www.restoredisks.com/

Good Luck

HP Elitebook 840 G3.

Trying to Bilocker the laptop with the key on a USB memory stick. When selecting the check option it fails.

De-selecting the check option and the laptop encrypts, the key file is written to the memory stick and the AD record is updated with the details of the encryption and a recovery key.

When the laptop is re-booted it doesn't see the USB memory stick with encryption file. The only way in is to enter the 48 digit recovery key.

I have tried several different memory sticks without success.

I have tried both USB slots without success.

I have upgraded to the latest BIOS without succes.

I have upgarded Firmware and Chipset drivers with out success.

Please help.

Laptop fails to start (black screen, fan running, no response) after add SAMSUNG 8GB 204 pin DDR3L

Hi. I've not found an identical thread or a solution for this. I hope someone can help.

I have a HP Probook G1. Details in screenshot below.

I want to install additional memory and bought the following: SAMSUNG 8GB 204 pin DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM (1600Mhz, PC3L-12800S, CL11, 1.35V Low Power for Notebook)

When I install the memory, the laptop no longer boots up. After pressing the on/off button, I just get a black screen, the capslock and numlock LEDs blink and the cooler fan runs at high revs. Nothing else happens.

I've tried installing only the new memory and installing it in the second memory card slot with the original memory still in place. In both cases the laptop fails to start.

I've tried doing a complete system reset (battery removed, start on power only) etc. but to no avail.

Please help! The laptop is unbelievably slow with only 4GB memory. :-(

Hi @ all,

i have a Elte x2 1012 Tablet and the Thunderbolt 3 Dock 65 W (P5Q54AA) and i want to install over PXE a new customized Windows OS. The BIOS and the Dock have the latest BIOS Version (Elite X2 - v1.14).

But i cannot boot over PXE. The PXE Option is not visible in the BIOS under the UEFI Boot Order/Legacy Boot Order.
The Network (PXE) Boot is marked.

Hi @raj32,

Welcome to the HP Forum,

It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide:

First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More

I grasp that on startup you get a blank window and the message that it is repairing disk errors. You have followed the HP Support Assistant video to no avail.

Here is a link that should help:

HP PCs - Error Messages Display on a Black Screen during Startup or Boot (Windows 10, 8, 7)

If you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, did this occur right afterward?

Can you boot into safe mode?

HP PCs - Windows Safe Mode (Windows 10, 8)

If you can boot to safe mode, try running the Windows troubleshooter and the HP Support Assistant to troubleshoot and hopefully help resolve this issue.

Please let me know the outcome.

Thank you  for participating in the HP Forums! We want to help you as well as others who may experience a similar issue. Hi there @Moore95,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I moved your post so that both of them were together for me to answer you properly. I understand that you are receiving an error message that says "Selected boot image did not authenticate..." also.

I had given instructions on another thread. You had replied to the troubleshooting steps on that thread, stating that you have tried to do a hard reset twice and that the answer to my questions was no. Due to this information, I would suggest that you please try to do a BIOS reset

Can you get to the BIOS Menu to be able to do a Hardware Test? It is important that you try and do a hardware test on your Notebook to help diagnose where the issue is coming from.

Do you have any CD's in the Notebook? If so, please remove them and try restarting your Notebook again. Same with anything that is externally connected to the Notebook. Please unplug all of those devices and then try restarting your Notebook again.

The LED's for your Caps Lock and Num Lock functions do not blink at all when you push the power on?

Do you see anything when you try to power the Notebook on?

What happens when you tried booting into Safe Mode?

One of my questions was whether or not there were Recovery Discs created before this had happened (generally when you purchase the Notebook). If you did not, you would need recovery media to perform a system recovery.

Other than that, you could try to disable secure boot and enable legacy boot in the BIOS.

Did this reply resolve your issue or answer your question? If yes, then please share the good news! Let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. You can also show your appreciation by clicking the Thumbs Up.

If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with the results of the troubleshooting.

Thanks!

Have a great day!

Hello @amhay,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I read your post about the notebook shutting down, and wanted to assist you!

Will the notebook only shut down while on battery power?  Will the notebook shut down, when the battery still have sufficient charge?  You can try testing and calibrating the battery using the following document.  Please post back with the results:

HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8)

Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks!

Have a great day!
