HP ENVY M7-N109DX

Hi,

I just recently purchased an HP ENVY M7-N109DX touch screen from Best Buy.

However, when I got it home and booted it up for the first time, it froze on the Microsoft Account page, I had to turn it off and then back on cause I couldn't do anything with it.

When turning it back on, it froze at the "Just a moment..." screen and it will not continue with setup.

I have tried taking the battery out, unplugging it and depressing the power key to release any power stored there, but that didn't work.

Is there anything else I can try?

Please help, I really want to use my new laptop and can't.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thank you.

Everytime I close the Lid, when I open it again the touchpad doesn't work.

I have to restart or put the computer in to sleep in order to the touchpad start working again.

Hello.

I have tried every possible solution and canno't seem to fix it. Can't make a recovery reset disk. Can't boot from usb, changing any sort of order from the bios.

Has no CD drive..so can't do it through there either.

No hotmail account during installation so cannot recover password through it.

Tried every possible password..that it could be, but Im sure there was none when I installed it.

No way to get command prompt to change/obtain password.

Is there anything else I could do? or get further assistance with hp?

blank screen on HP Pavilion 17 g121wm

What steps are you referring to?  You linked three different articles.  Which one applies to this issue?  I just purchased one of these units yesterday and this black screen has happened both times while scrolling, seemed to be pointer position or I incurred some odd command in the touch pad.

These touch pads are funky, too....way too sensitive in terms of it interpreting various touching to constantly shrink/expand the image....what numbnuts engineer that that feature would be super helpful?  Now I don't mind turning off the two finger thing, but out of the box its just not a helpful "feature".

It just happened again while composing this (the dark screen of inactivity)....seems if I put my cursor beong the scrolling bar in the lower right corner it incurs this.  This happens one or two more times and I think this will be returned.  I'm just trying to determine if getting another is a waste of my time (takes 2 hr drive) as a defect in this model run or not.....so far it's looking like a defective design from the other people experiencing just what I am.

What specifically is likely to be the issue here and what is the fix?

Further note, blank screen happened a few more times, but cursor not always beyond right side scrolling bar.  Looking for alternate laptop as I've seen several comments on the wal mart reviews about this now too

The system is still not booting properly. When system is "cool" (fully turned off for 30+ minutes,) it will load properly into windows. But approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute after being powered on, system will fully lock up and I am unable to do anything, requiring a hard restart. Afterwhich, system hangs at "Press the ESC key for startup menu" and will do nothing else or progress no further.

From personal experience with my own desktop PC's this issue seems similar to an over-heating issue. I know that laptops are prone to cooling issues, but 30 seconds into a cold boot seems a little quick to be overheating, unless there is another related hardware issue.

Further help and suggestions are welcome. This laptop is still covered under its 1 year manufacturer warranty. Would it be advisable to return it for repair/replacement? If so how would I engage that process?

Sparkles,

Thank you much for your response. My apologies that it has been a while since I checked back in here. I installed Java (which for some reason or another wasn't installed previously on this machine) and my current version of DirectX is version 12. Windows update says it's up to date. The problems seemed to basically go away for a while but then recently came back with a vengenace in the last couple of days.  In an attempt to read the minidump files that have been created I downloaded Microsoft Visual Studio, however, to this point is hasn't allowed me to read the .dmp files saying that I have to install the right application. I think I might just need to download certain debugging code for it. Meanwhile, I stumbled across a small program called Blue Screen View which allowed me to get a basic look at the .dmp files and point to ntoskrnl.exe as my culprit. I have ntoskrnl.exe + 38cb5 and ntoskrnl + 14cfe9 with the first one being the most common cause of crashes. I'm still checking things out and trying to research but I'll check back here to see if you or anyone else might have any further suggestions. Thanks again!

No change again. Same issue persists.

It's a pity HP abandons its customers so fast!

I bought a state-of-the-art laptop 3 years ago, and now HP just abandoned all of us who switched to WIN10.

That's a shame.  HP just lost another previously loyal customer.
