Hi,

Is your laptop installed with Windows 8/8.1?

First do a System Restore to a previous known good point (at least 48hrs before the update happened):
See "Restore your computer when Windows 8 cannot start normally" section in this -
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03327545

Next change "automatic" Windows Update from Control Panel to "To Check for Updates Automatically but Let you Choose to Download and Install them or Not" :
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5794-windows-update-automatic-updating-turn-off-windows-8-a.html

May be the Microsoft Tuesday update patches is causing the problem.

Next to rule out any hard drive issues causing this, Do a complete - quick & extensive hard drive testing from BIOS :
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259

Wait for all the tests to complete. It'll take time.

If it PASS all the tests,

Next: execute a System file scan - Option 2 in this tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3047-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html

Restart system.

Then, execute dism commands given in Option 1 in this tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html

Restart system.

Now, Completely disable/uninstall all the Antivirus softwares including Windows Defender from your system temporarily

Now you manually install available Windows updates in batches of 5 or less instead of everything as a whole.

Restart system after each batch installs.

Install the Important & Recommended updates.
You can leave any optional updates that becomes available in your Windows Update without any worries.

Restart system after everything finishes. Check.

When I turn my PC on, I get the HP logo and the spinning wheel indicating connecting. After about a minute the screen goes black and none of the keys will operate. The same thing happens whether it's on power or battery. I have left it totally off including removal of the battery and tried it again after a day but the results are the same.

HP pavilion 17-eo16dx problem?

Hello,

Starting about two weeks ago my laptop was acting weird.  Going slow and my speech recognition was very inaccurate.  My girlfriend downloaded two antivirus programs that we ran and they found several viruses which we deleted.  After that it was working much better for a few days then suddenly it turned itself off.  My first thought was maybe the battery died and maybe it wasn't charging.  I double checked all of the power connections which were fine but it would not come back on.  I left it plugged in for an hour or so at it came back on.  It worked fine for a day or so, I kept watching the battery level which showed full and that it was charging but suddenly it turned itself off again and it will not come back on.  I have always taken care of the battery!  I unplug it regularly to "cycle" the battery.  Just a couple days before this happened I ran it on the battery for well over an hour.  When I push the power button nothing happens!  No light, no sound...  Nothing!  Does anyone have any ideas?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Pavilion 13-a010dx x360 Convertible  and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.

When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook or return the Notebook back to before the issue happened.

Once the Notebook is running make sure you perform any updates before inserting the USB cable.

Please let me know how this goes.

Thanks.

Hi PedroCardoso,

You never did mention how the rest of the tests went. But if your hard drive is failing as indicated by the short DST test error then you will need to look at replacing the hard drive. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  ,

Thank you for posting back.  What you will need to do is do some looking around in the BIOS for the diagnostics then.  Once you have found the hard ware diagnostics there should be two tests.  Run them both.  If you can not do this then the only option is for you to pull the drive and get it into another system to back up all your stuff.

Once you have your files backed up then put the drive back in and run the system recovery that is built in.

Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)

If this fails then you will need to contact HP phone support for repair options. They will have access to recovery media as well if you need it.

Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

Thank you again for posting and have a great day.

USB ports causing lag/freezes

$

Hi,

Hoping I am posting this in the right place. So, just recently Ive been having some problems with my HP Pavilion laptop. Having a mouse plugged into any of the three USB ports causes sound lag, fps drop and stutters on the movement of the mouse.

I first noticed this in a game where the sound started breaking up along with some frame rate stutter. Checked sound drivers etc and no problems found. Eventually made the link between having a mouse plugged in and the problem occuring. To clarify, when I unplug the mouse all of the problems stop. I can plug the mouse back in and all will be fine for a few minutes and then the stuttering etc will start again.

The problem persists regardless of which port the mouse is plugged into and I have tried a couple of different mice so the problem seems to be internal to the laptop. All the mouse drivers are up to date as are the USB drivers.

Rather at a loss - im hoping someone here can shed some light on the issue.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
