Re: boot device not found - please install an operating system on your hard disk

Thanks for your reply - but I've already tried that. When I tap "ESC" on startup I get a menu list and on choosing F9 the notebook displays the Boot Manager screen (a grey screen with Boot Manager in a blue section at the top).

In the grey area it says;

Boot Option Menu

"up and down arrow symbols" to change option, ENTER to select an option.

Press F10 to BIOS Setup Options, ESC to exit.

That's it, there's nothing else. If I press F10 it just goes to the standard Main/Security/System Configuration/ Exit screen, the System Configuration option takes me to Boot Options and the UEFI Boot Order - which doesn't accept the USB Memory Stick - so I'm back to the original problem............................ It looks like this notebook is now defunct!

You are welcome.

Honestly, I know little more about computer batteries than what is in the documentation.  I studied the subject (AC/DC power) in school, of course - the practical world does not always work like the "specification" documents indicate.

If HP does not supply the battery, you will likely have to find in from a trusted merchant in your region.   If you live in a country where Amazon is allowed to do business (and / or chooses to do so), you can check there.

Our Community cannot help with this - we are not HP Technical Support.

Regardless, those of us who do not work for HP cannot give out information of this type.  For example, we do not have any means of confirming identity or ownership.  We are morally bound to protect your privacy and we cannot provide "break in" information.

First, check the paperwork that was provided with the repaired device (in the box).  Contact information may be included.

You will need to contact HP.  You might be able to use the same case number (do NOT post that information here or on any public site).  If the case number does not work, open a new case, explain the problem, and ask for options.

Contact HP Support – Assistance Portal

If contacting HP is not an option for any reason, take the computer to a licensed Microsoft technician.  Licensed Microsoft technicians can help you regain access to your computer.  Be prepared to show proof of ownership.

I’m trying to format my laptop to factory defaults, so I want to do a factory reset.

I’ve tried to press escape during startup, that pops up a menu.

Now I have to press F11 following the manual. But the button is not present.

When I press F10 I have to enter the password but I forgot my password.

please help me, I want to sell the laptop cause I’ve got a new one.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Contact Support >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Just to note:

Do not try removing the RTC/BIOS battery.  As it will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock and as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC may cause it to fail.

I've followed all above steps,

The touchpad driver rollback gave me a "code 10" msg and fails to function completely on the HP driver.

Funny thin i noticed.....USB also refuses to work after waking up, as an external mouse wouldnt function also.

Unfortunately the rest of the steps wouldnt work also.

I've updated again to the newest Synaptics driver, so everything works in cold start again.
