I see that the computer is not booting up after updating the bios version, I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

Firstly, let's perform system hard reset:

Removable Battery:

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery.

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer.

6) Try to turn on the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello

Thank you for your message. My product number is 14-n249nf.

I hve checked the bios update version available and tried the latest one for intel processors.

Here's a few things I should add that are related to this problem:

- the parameters in the EFI can't be changed (whether when trying to change boot device order or when trying to enable legacy mode for example, if I make the change, save then reboot, the changes are lost)

- I can't boot from USB (even when I press F9 and choose the USB option)

- the efibootmgr utility that is used with Linux to change and manage EFI boot options returns with an error when trying to change boot options

- I'm suspecting that I have been affected by this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1734147

Hi:

If you successfully made the USB W10 installation flash drive, plug it into the notebook's USB port.

Turn on the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash drive (could be USB diskette on key), and press the Enter key.  The PC should boot from the flash drive and begin to load the installation files.

If that doesn't happen, go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot.

See this link for the settings to change.

https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736054/

After you make the changes, restart the PC,  and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the Legacy USB flash drive (could be USB diskette on key), and press the Enter key.  The PC should boot from the flash drive and begin to load the installation files.

I can not get to a boot menu whatsoever. I've tried every key.

Tapping the ESC key at the very beginning of the HP welcome screen should get you to a menu of options.

If it isn't, unfortunately I wouldn't know why or what to do about it.

I suggest that you contact HP technical support if the notebook is still under warranty....1 (866) 724-8600

To me, any PC that you can put on your lap is a notebook PC.

And call it what you want...all HP gaming laptops, notebooks, netbooks, etc, made in the last 5+ years uses the ESC key to get to a BIOS menu or boot options menu.

The only way you are going to get to the boot options menu, is to follow the process I posted.

Hi:

The code you received, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Consult the maintenance and service guide for the specific model HP Envy you have, for the HDD R & R procedures.

If your notebook did not come with W8.1 with Bing, and you don't have a way to reinstall Windows, you can do so as follows...

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

Only if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'

 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8.1 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8.1 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

If your notebook came with W8.1 with Bing, you will have to order the Windows recovery media from HP from your notebook's support page.

OK, good.

If those are the only options you have, you will have to go into the BIOS and enable the legacy mode setting so it shows a legacy USB diskette on key device to boot from (flash drive).

Now that you know how to access the menu, select the F10 setup menu to change those settings.

Read the link I posted above.

Hello,

Thank you for the suggestion but trying that did not work. I am still seeing the caps lock light blink 5 times while nothing else happens with the computer. Is there any way to downgrade the BIOS to a previous version without the computer booting?

This seems to be an issue with the Windows OS. Since you are using a licensed Copy Microsoft should be able to sort this out.

But keep us posted if you need further assistance

Thank you 😊
