Welcome to the HP Support Community
For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.
Contact Support >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.
Just to note:
Do not try removing the RTC/BIOS battery. As it will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock and as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC may cause it to fail.

Hello
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Could you please clarify which is the encryption device you refer to ? It's not 100% clear for me .
Could you please take a couple of pictures [use your camera or smartphone] and post them back here ?
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

Hi all,
After a couple of issues when trying to install a new version of Ubuntu, I figured I should try to update the EFI bios of my HP laptop.
After following the instructions and booting with the USB stick, the HP bios update utility showed up and started copying / veryfing the new bios. After a few copying / verifying cycles it stopped, telling me that the BIOS update failed.
Is there something I can do to fix this ?
thanks a lot
Madani
does anybody have the last bios update of dv6500 (intel version)?
my computer fan is too loud
thanks
OK, so that means your PC is no longer under warranty, so any repairs are going to cost you.
If what you are getting is a plain black screen, waiting is NOT going to accomplish anything -- as this likely means either the OS has become corrupted, prevented Windows from loading, or the hard drive has failed.
If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024
If not, you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu -- that will look similar to the image below ...
3) press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.
Please report back the test results.
I have sent the laptop to a shop and they said i had to reformat it. OS was broken or something related to the OS

hello. here is it. the error comes after i enter my password.
sorry for misunderstanding, was talking abouthp drive enryption, device encryption
I'm using an HP Pavilion Notebook Model 15-ba079dx and it won't let me enter into the BIOS without an administrative password. I have no idea what this is, and after attempting multiple generic passwords I get a message that says: System Disabled [i 70160753]. I saw elsewhere on the forums here that apparently you can generate a unique password given the disable code – is there anyway someone could do that for me?
Please help! In over my head in Kansas
-Thank you ~ShamRock~
