Welcome to the HP Support Community

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Contact Support >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Just to note:

Do not try removing the RTC/BIOS battery.  As it will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock and as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC may cause it to fail.

You're very welcome.

Sounds like you need to reinstall the operating system.

First run the hard drive diagnostics test in the BIOS. and see what it reports.

I think you can use the F2 key to get to the diagnostics program.

Hello

I have found the solution!

HP is worthless, they could not help me with this.

I found the solution myself!

For x360 G2 G3 and so on, you must have external keyboard.

And then connect USB memory, press Windows key + arror up + arrow down on external keyboard.

Start laptop and THEN DIRECTLY multiple times press F10 on INTERNAL keyboard.

Then it will work!

SMC on HP EliteDesk not working?

$

Hello

I have a HP EliteDesk 705 G2 that needs the BIOS Supervisor password removed.

I am aware of the jumper on motherboard, but on this particular device the jumper will not work becouse on the BIOS Setup i have Enabled Stringent security. Which means only SMC option left.

On HP Manual for this device it says clearly

"Resetting the password jumper CAUTION: Stringent security is a mode where there is no physical bypass of the password function. If enabled, removing the password jumper will be ignored. To enable this mode, change the security setting Clear Password Jumper in Password Policies to Ignore. If you lose or forget the password when in stringent security mode, the system can only be reset by System Management Command."

I have talked with HP but they told me that they cannot crate SMC file for Desktops becouse it only works for laptops which is obviosly NOT TRUE. And after i refered to the manual, the guy create a SMC File for me BUT the new problem is that i get SMC Command Failure becouse of wrong date and time sett on SMC Files.

I get following info on SMC Command Failure info.

SMC Command Failure
SMC log status: 0x4
PEI Status: Success
Command GUI: F0EE.............
Number of Executions: 0
Maximum Executions: -1
Command Start date: 0000/00/00 00:00:00
Command End date: 0000/00/00 00:00:00
System Date: 0000/00/00 00:00:00

I have told this to HP, that the SMC Contains wrong command dates, and the support agent told me that their tool generates SMC For Desktop with these dates becouse Desktops are not supported for SMC, which contradicts the information HP provides on they hardware manual.

Anybody on this forum that can help me clear this whith HP?
Is the support agent just messing around with me? Or what is this all about?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards
Demir

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I see from your post that you are having issues with the HP notebook not going to sleep mode. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Did you try to update the Bios?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Once done, restart the computer.

I would suggest you go through all the steps suggested in the support document for - HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate Issues (Windows 10, 8)

Next thing, regarding the keyboard backlight turning off, please go through the support document for - HP Notebook PCs - Using the Backlit Keyboard

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support I see from your post you need assistance with the driver issue for your HP Pavilion G7 2373CA notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

What is the exact model of the notebook? Is it DV7-2373ca or Is it G7-2373ca

Have you installed a retail copy of Windows or OEM version of Windows?

Have you tried to update the drivers either using Windows update or using HP Support Assistant?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

If you're using HP Pavilion G7-2373ca notebook,  I did go through the Product specifications and found that this PC was shipped with Windows 8 and there are only drivers available for Windows 8 and 8.1.

Software and driver download page from our HP support website

If you have installed a retail copy of Windows then you would need to rely on Windows generic drivers, that is Windows update or you can try to install HP Support Assistant and check if that helps.

I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the Windows update troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform Windows Updates -

  1. Click Start, type update in the search box, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
  2. In the details pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
  3. If you see a message telling you that important or optional updates are available, or telling you to review important or optional updates, click the message to view the updates to install.
  4. In the list, select the check box for the updates that you want to install, click OK, and then click Install updates.

Alternatively, you can , download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Once done, restart the computer.

If this does not resolves the issue then you would need to revert back to the original Operating system that was shipped with the PC.

If you have created one, you can try to perform a system recovery or else please follow the instructions from the private message to order a set of recovery media for your PC.

Here's what you need to know about obtaining recovery media for your PC.

Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Regards,

Hi, Maria:

The failure code you received, Battery 1,  indicates that there is something wrong with the battery or the power adapter.

I suggest you see if removing the battery and running the notebook from the power adapter eliminates the power adapter as being the bad part.

If there is no failure code and the notebook runs fine, then most likely the battery needs to be replaced.
