Thank you so much for that method, I will try it and see how it goes.

I was given a Failure ID and I'm wondering whether this would help with solving my issue.

My search online to find the latest BIOS for a dv6000t laptop with the following specs below came up empty.

Would really appreciate a URL or link to where I can find the most up-to-date BIOS so I may upgrade the laptop to use 2-2GB SODIMMs.

Specification:

Model: Hp Pavilion dv6000 (RD869AV#ABA)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 (1730 Mhz)

Current BIOS: F.16

Serial Number: CNF7170ZBL

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi there

I bought this laptop second hand and the first owner has set password for the BIOS settings. I can't boot from USB, so I was unable to install another OS - like Ubuntu.

I found on the internet method for resetting BIOS to default with: SMC.BIN file. Can you please provide me with that file.

UUID: 42020AB8-980F-000B-1C19-6A776FAC389D

Thank you in advance.

Regards

Sorry, but as mentioned in a previous comment, I have already tried resetting Windows and the problem still persisted. I would really prefer not to do so a second time, especially considering the fact that it didn't work the first time. Do you maybe have any more ideas?

DV7-6195us can't boot to CD / can't get to boot menu or boot device menu?

I just replaced the hard drive on this notebook and I need to boot from the cd for some diagnostics. I've tried using the esc and I mean I have my finger over the esc key as I press the power button with my other have and I'm tapping the esc key a couple times per second and I can't get the startup menu to come up and the computer just boots through to the operating system.

I've shut down and retried this half a dozen times and I can't seem to get that menu to come up; alternatly several other people have said in other threads to try the F9 or F10 keys and neither of those work either; anyone have an idea?

Laptop no longer even shows signs of life...

So yesterday I was playing video games on my laptop, nothing out of the ordinary when my mouse stopped working. This had been an ongoing issue for the past couple of weeks so I thought I had to adjust it but after about 10 seconds of moving it around and no lights returning to the mouse, my entire laptop crashed. I thought at first that it was just dead and needed to be charged, as it was possible that the charger wasn't plugged in properly and I had missed the warning, but no after charging the computer for about an hour and attempting to turn it back on several times nothing worked. I had attempted to hold down the power button to force it to shut down if it was still running, and then attempted to boot it again but nothing, no power goes to the screen nor do I hear any signs of life from the fan or internals of the laptop. This thing is kind of the only computer I have so any assistance I could receive would be greatly appreciated!

ENVY m6-k125dx turns on for a few seconds, then shuts off

Hi all, have an HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k125dx.  It will turn on for about 10 seconds then shuts off.  The power and Wifi lights will come on, I can hear the HDD spin up, and the CPU fan is running.  The screen doesn't come on.  After about 10 seconds it shuts off. Charging port light is orange while plugged into the adapter.  Have tried removing the battery, RAM, and CMOS battery for several minutes and then reconnecting.  Battery is slightly bloated.  Have tried to turn it on with the battery disconnected as well.  Any idea what's going on?  Further things to try?

Thanks

Sorry, but any time a laptop simply refuses to turn on, that tend to indicate a serious hardware failure.

Software failures invariably present with error messages of some kind on the screen, such as No Operating System or No Boot Device. In these cases, reinstalling the OS from media such as DVD or USB fixes the first; rebuilding the boot records using various utilities fixes the second.

There are these interactive diagnostic routines you can run from another PC that will attempt to walk you through some steps to determine the source(s) of the problem: http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=NoPowerorBootIssues.net&section=ccweb&as=true&SFS=tdoc

The problem is that we HERE, have no way of diagnosing or repairing hardware problems.

If your PC is still under the original one-year HP warranty, or if you have purchased an extended warranty from HP and this is still valid, then you should contact HP Customer Support to see about having it repaired or replaced under warranty.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836

If your PC is no longer under warranty, you will have to contact an HP Repair or Service Center to see if they can examine the PC to determine the cause(s) of the problems, if it can be repaired, and an estimate of the repair costs.

Even if you drop a laptop a short distance, the two components most likely to suffer SOME damage are the hard drive and the motherboard.

With hard drive damage, you could see problems like freezing, booting issues (due to filesystem corruption), problems logging into Windows, and even problems launching programs and/or opening files -- all due basically, to a corrupted file system due to physical damage to the drive.

With motherboard damage, the problems are harder to see. A serious crack in one or more of the "tracings" on the board will cause one or more components to fail.  So, a serious break will prevent the PC from even working. But, you can also get microfractures that don't show up right away, but over time, problems starte to appear and eventually, the laptop will no longer function.

Problems with unsigned drivers dv7-2173ca and windows 7

Hi  I have a real strange problem.  I reloaded a HP lapto DV7.  It needed drivers and they are all listed on the website so I downloaded them.  I am still putting in service packs and have not got them all in.

I installed the drivers and some of them came up as unsigned drivers.  Some of the USB ones and the touchpad.  I am not sure about the other ones like the audio.

I go to restart the machine and get to the login screen and absolultly no keyboard and what is worse is also affected the onscreen keyboard would not come on either.  I click the box (odd but the mouse works. the touch pad doesn't)  I click the box and mark the onscreen keyboard and hit apply.  The ok box greys out and the apply box greys out.

I research a bit with google and it looks like an unsigned driver issue.  So I figured out how to get into safe boot option and turn signed drivers off.  I don't want to do that as the drivers should be signed to be secure.

Now It appears that I have to do this everytime or it locks up at the login screen.

What do I do?  I cannot log on to see which driver is the bad one. It won't let me.  I can log on with the unsigned driver option on Safe boot menu.

Please advise.  Do I roll the drivers back and how do I find out which one is the bad one.

Thanks Rick M

My grandson played with my laptop last week. Today was the first day I have tried using it. As soon as I turn it on it says Enter Administrator Password or Power on Password. Three failed attempts gives me the code F2414237. I have been looking on these boards and it seems like the only option is to receive an unlock code. Can anyone help please?
