Re: I need an SMC.bin to unlock my Probook 450 G2

Welcome to the HP Support Community

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Contact Support >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Just to note:

Do not try removing the RTC/BIOS battery.  As it will not remove the password, but it may reset the clock and as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC may cause it to fail.

Hi,

@ Lil_Boy_Blue.. thanks for your suggestions. I think i will try changing the cmos battery. Might be discharged as it has been more than 3 years since i got this laptop. If i am not mistaken, the battery is a cr2032 type.

I will definitely look in the other suggestions as well.

Many thanks.

HI guys, I'm having problems with my laptop. Every time I start it goes straight into BIOS with the message exit without saving changes. I can't access any of the options, I have to press control alt del and then esc as it boots before I can access the bios menu.

The date and time have reset to the when the computer was made, I've replaced the CMOS battery but it comes up with the message The CMOS check sum is invalid (CMOS reset 502). I made changes to the date and time but when I come to exiting BIOS, if I select exit saving changes it goes straight but to bios and then it's a loop if I keep selecting exit saving changes. It will only go on to start windows if I select exit discarding changes, it then boots normally and I can then use the laptop without any problems.

It's annoying having to deal with bios everytime I start up my laptop. Can anyone help me out please, I've run out of ideas in terms of what to do. I'm including screenshots of the messages that have been coming up.

Thank in advance for all your help.IMG_0154.PNGIMG_0155.PNGIMG_5417.PNGScreen after replacing CMOS battery

My laptop will no longer turn on at all. Lights are flashing at the charge Port, the power button, wifi switch button (f-12), and Ethernet Port. Have already tried taking batt out. Is it now a boat anchor?

Hi:

The code you received, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means that you will have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual.  The HDD R & R procedures can be found in chapter 6.

If you do not have a way to reinstall W10, you can do so for free as follows...

To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool.  Make the 64 bit installation media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.

W10 fill find the product key in the BIOS during the installation process, install, and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

After W10 is installed you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Re: Laptop won't start up stuck on f11 service recovery

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out :)

I see that laptop is not booting to F11 recovery manager and also computer boots up only when ac adapter plugged in,
Since you are able to use a notebook when it is plugged-in, it is a great indicator that your charger adapter is not the issue. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
  • Are you try to boot in too F11bsystem recovery manager?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Battery Test:

Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:

  1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
  2. Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
  3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.

If the test passes, continue with these steps:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Also, you can update your computer software and check:

Use the HP Support Assistant to automatically install computer updates, such as updated drivers, system updates, and useful utilities.

Firstly: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!
